The Impact of Mandating Residential Fire Sprinkler Systems
The Impact of Mandating Residential Fire Sprinkler Systems
The IAR Advocacy Program has produced a new lobbying brochure on the issue of municipal ordinances which require the installation of fire sprinkler systems in ALL newly constructed single-family homes and townhomes. IAR’s local Government Affairs Directors are expecting that this issue will be prominent in 2010 because a national building officials group recently recommended that this requirement be a part of any local building code (for new residential construction). In addition, the sprinkler manufacturer lobby is pressing hard for this requirement. The brochure will be given to local officials when they consider such a proposal. The piece is intended to have local officials consider all aspects of an installation mandate, including the cost borne by the new homebuyer, and the deprivation of consumer choice. For a copy of this brochure contact Aimee Bick of IAR, abick@iar.org or 800-752-3274.
