How New Lead-Based Paint Rules Affect REALTORS®
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a new rule regarding remodeling and renovation work that is done in housing to address lead-based paint hazards created by such work. This new rule goes into effect on April 22, 2010. The U.S. EPA rule in this area addresses lead hazards in remodeling and renovation projects. To reduce exposure to lead-based paint hazards during renovation activities, EPA is requiring additional notification and work safety procedures before, during, and after remodeling or renovation activity. These new rules will particularly impact REALTORS® who have significant property management activities in their practice and residential property managers. NAR has developed a pair of video compliance guides to help REALTORS® understand the new rules and their compliance responsibilities.
